Hologic has elected Martin Madaus to its board of directors, effective on December 6. Dr. Madaus was also appointed to the company’s Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee effective December 6.

Dr. Madaus touts over 30 years of diagnostics and life sciences industry experience. He is currently an operating executive at global investment firm Carlyle Group, which he joined in February 2019.

Before Carlyle Group, Dr. Madaus was chairman and CEO of Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a company that makes products and diagnostic testing equipment for blood testing. He also previously served as chairman, president, and CEO of Milipore Corporation, a life sciences company serving the bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry, until its acquisition by Merck KGaA in 2010.

“We’re delighted to welcome Martin to Hologic’s Board of Directors,” said Steve MacMillan, Hologic’s chairman, president, and CEO. “With his deep industry, technical, business and international experiences, Martin represents yet another strong addition to our deep and experienced Board.”

In October, Hologic revealed that it was acquiring Gynesonics, developer of the Sonata System, a technology intended for diagnostic intrauterine imaging and transcervical treatment of certain symptomatic uterine fibroids, including those associated with heavy menstrual bleeding. The Sonata system combines real-time intrauterine ultrasound guidance with targeted radiofrequency ablation in an incision-less procedure.

The company also unveiled new technologies for breast health at this year’s Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) earlier this month.
